IELTS UKVI

About IELTS UKVI

If you intend to pursue an educational degree in the UK, you must take a specific language proficiency test known as IELTS for UKVI, as standard IELTS exams are no longer accepted by UK universities and colleges. This test is recognized by the UK government as a Secure English Language Test (SELT), essential for demonstrating English proficiency in support of a UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) application. IELTS for UKVI caters to individuals aspiring to study at the undergraduate or postgraduate levels in the UK or those pursuing professional registration in the country. Various types of IELTS for UKVI exist to suit different purposes, and test takers must register for the appropriate type based on their needs. Notably, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the General Medical Council in the UK accept both regular IELTS and IELTS for UKVI results. Therefore, doctors, dentists, nurses, and midwives can utilize either set of results for entry and registration purposes.

What is the difference between IELTS and IELTS for UKVI?

The format, content, scoring, and difficulty level of IELTS and IELTS for UKVI are identical. The sole distinction lies in the approval by the UK Home Office for work, study, and migration reasons. Consequently, if you opt for an IELTS for UKVI examination, your test report form will indicate that you completed the test specifically for UKVI purposes at an authorized IELTS test center.

Are the questions tested before they are used in the IELTS test?

Certainly! Each question featured on the IELTS test undergoes meticulous design, screening, and testing by Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) to guarantee alignment with established standards before its inclusion as test material. This thorough process can span up to two years to ensure that every question meets our rigorous standards for all test takers. Our research efforts aim to maintain the fairness and impartiality of IELTS for individuals from diverse backgrounds, irrespective of nationality, gender, or lifestyle. Our dedicated team ensures that each test version maintains consistent difficulty levels, ensuring reliability and trustworthiness.

What is the difference between IELTS academic and IELTS general training?

If you intend to migrate to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, or the USA, opting for the IELTS General Training test is advisable. Similarly, if you’re considering secondary education or vocational training, this option could be suitable. However, if your goal involves pursuing higher education or seeking professional registration in an English-speaking country, you may need to consider taking the IELTS Academic test.

What all IELTS for UKVI test versions are available?

IELTS for UKVI Academic: Designed for individuals seeking to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate studies and those aiming for professional registration in the UK.

IELTS for UKVI General Training: Intended for individuals planning to migrate to the UK or pursuing training or studies below degree level.

What are the main differences between language skills at the A1 and B1 levels?

IELTS Life Skills A1: Required for individuals applying for ‘family of a settled person’ visas who need to demonstrate their English speaking and listening abilities.

IELTS Life Skills B1: Necessary for individuals applying for ‘indefinite leave to remain or citizenship’ visas who need to validate their English speaking and listening skills.

Is IELTS for UKVI tougher than other IELTS tests?

No, IELTS for UKVI shares the same test pattern, scoring criteria, and difficulty level as general IELTS. The primary distinction lies in the implementation of additional security measures specific to IELTS for UKVI. Additionally, your IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) will differ slightly from that of general IELTS, containing a unique SELT Reference Number.

When will the test results be available for UKVI IELTS?

The results for the IELTS for UKVI test will be accessible within 13 days following the test date, while results for the IELTS Life Skills test will be available within 7 days. It’s important for candidates to understand that their results will not be accessible online. Instead, the IELTS Test Result Form (TRF) will be dispatched to their postal address.

What is the scoring system?

Each section receives a band score (1-9), and the overall score is an average of these. The required score varies based on your visa application.

Can I retake the IELTS UKVI test?

Yes, you can retake the test anytime. However, you will need to pay the registration fee again and go through the application process.
