SOP for Masters in Automobile Engineering

Speeding vehicles have been a fascination for me ever since childhood. I used to have an enviable collection of toy cars. Since then I dreamt of being involved with cars in some way or the other. Gradually, with education and exposure, I decided to pursue a career in automobile engineering. I was gradually preparing myself for it with a focus to gather maximum knowledge about automobiles.

I have always been a meritorious student with active participation in cultural activities. After securing 86 percent in my matriculation and 71 percent in intermediate, I chased my passion for machines and pursued mechanical engineering for my under-graduation at the reputed Gandhinagar Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It was around this time when my mother was diagnosed with cancer and finally left us bereaved in 2013. Consequently, I lost focus on my studies and was unable to clear many modules. However, after a year of the setback, I decided to revive myself. I started focusing back on my education and career goals. For my internship, I joined Inductotherm India in 2014, for a year-long project on material handling automation. It was my first industrial exposure and I was able to learn a lot about several automation systems adopted for material handling. Further, I closely explored the Induction Melting furnaces and various types of heating machinery manufactured by the company and supplied to diverse industries across the globe. While working, I was successfully able to modify the design of a machine, vertical step feeder to handle both square and circular billets against to its previous capacity to handle circular billets exclusively. This experience augmented my knowledge about automation and manufacturing process tremendously.

During 2015, I was a part of the BAJA SAE team of my college. Though we could not go far in the competition, I learnt closely about cars and its manufacturing. This triggered a keen desire to learning more about engines and designs. Eventually, I nurtured a dream of making an affordable engine that works on renewable sources of energy and can work well on Indian roads and climatic conditions. Thus, I did my best to acquire knowledge about automobile manufacturing. I read extensively about the subjects, participated in competitions and attended workshops. I attended a 3-day extensive workshop on Basic Pneumatics by Festo India and a 2 days training on automobile mechanics and IC engine design by IIT Bombay. To hone my skills of using PLC and automation in tandem with mechanical engineering, I underwent certified courses for PLC and SCADA. I have also knowledge of designing software AUTOCAD (2D) and SolidWorks (2D and 3D) and programming language C.

With regained determination, I was able to finish my under-graduation with a commendable CGPA of 7.03. I commenced my professional journey with GSH India in March 2016 as Graduate Engineer Trainee. The company is involved in the technical maintenance of the auxiliaries at the manufacturing plant of Ford Motors at Sanand, Gujarat. My job involved to learn about all the mechanical machineries (Pumps, Chillers, Motors, Cooling Towers, Air Filters, Pneumatic lines, Hydraulic Lines, Compressors, and Driers) and operate them on daily basis and ensure regular maintenance. Moreover, I got exposure to condition based monitoring.  I was placed in Stamping, Body Shop & Final assembly division of the manufacturing plant during my job tenure and also did office work for a month. I was elated on getting the job as it was my desired sector and ample of opportunity to learn at the renowned international entity. Here I learned a lot about the car manufacturing process. However, with time, I strongly felt the urge to advance my theoretical foundation and for this, an MS from a globally acclaimed university is the most suitable and rational step. It will help me gain an edge over my counterparts and international exposure shall make me abreast with the latest happenings in the sector and associated research work. This will act as a catalyst in shaping my dream in actuality. Thus, after a few months of work, I quit the job to focus on my preparations for the MS program.

Apart from a passion for cars, I also possess a creative inclination towards drawing and painting for which, I have cleared the Elementary and Intermediate examinations with admirable grades. I also have a keen interest in co-curricular activities and was actively involved at school and college levels. I passionately pursue traveling, music, and photography. I participated in college cultural festival as a singer in one of the band. Further, worked as an assistant photographer for 2 years with one of the professional Wedding & Event photographers in my city. It helped me take my hobby photography to next level. Voluntarily, I work as a Photographer & Event Coordinator in a Non-Profit Organization named HELP PORTRAIT, AHMEDABAD. We clicked portrait pictures of underprivileged kids, old age home residents, specially-abled children and people, print those photos on the spot, frame it and give it back to them at the same time. Also provide them with stationaries, snacks, and daily necessities. This helped me satiate my philanthropic urge and it helps me become a better person.

I’m sure that Masters in automobile engineering from XXXXX University shall provide me with the requisite impetus to accelerate my career growth and accomplished my career objectives. The on-going research work (mention a few researches) by PROFESSORS (names) is highly intriguing and I wish to participate in it. I can assure to give my best to the course and the university.
