Masters SOP for Telecommunication
“The new information technology… Internet and e-mail… have practically eliminated the physical costs of communications.” – Peter Drucker
This quote is indicative of how telecommunications have radically altered the way people communicate and businesses are conducted. The contemporary era is enduring a technological revolution spearheaded by telecommunication. Wireless networking has come a long way and made accessing information anytime, anywhere possible. Connectivity is the buzzword today influencing every aspect of human life. However, coupled with the advantages, there are several challenges like security, routing, improving multimedia networking, technological obsolescence, and infrastructural costs. I intend to be a part of this revolution and participate in the telecommunication progress of India. I desire to learn from global exposure and research work and apply my learning in facilitating world-class telecommunication services to the remotest parts of the country, at par with any developed nation.
I have always been intrigued by digitalization. Technological obsolescence made me wonder, “How technologies are developed and that too at such a rapid pace?” Then the “World Wide Web” got me entangled forever. To satiate my quest, I enrolled for Bachelor’s in Electronics and Telecommunication at the renowned Mukesh Patel School of Technology, Management and Engineering, NMIMS University, Mumbai. During my learning at the under graduation program, I realized that the curriculum is comprehensively designed to impart a theoretical soundness about the several subjects. However, this wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to learn beyond the textbooks. In this pursuit, I started getting abreast with the latest research work in the field of telecommunications. To apply my learning, I undertook several projects like the air-flow detector, door mount alarm circuits, infrared music transmitter, and receiver. I presented these as minor projects at the college and garnered appreciation from faculties and peers alike. However, But my crowning achievement was my final year project called ‘Design and Simulation of a Micro Strip Patch Antenna using IE3D software’. In this Project, I single-handedly designed a square patch Microstrip antenna used in various electronic instruments which could be fabricated by the procedure mentioned in the report and also tested its results by simulation in IE3D software. The experience and the feedback that I got for these projects catapulted my desire to work and research in the field of telecommunications. To gain practical knowledge, I underwent two internships, with Rattle Lifestyle and Escorts International Limited. These experiences gave me a fresh perspective and reassurance about my career planning. During the placements in the final year, I was able to procure two lucrative job offers with leading IT giants, Infosys and IBM. But I wanted to follow my instincts and my passion for telecommunication. So I took up a job with Alcatel-Lucent, one of the global biggest suppliers of Telecommunication technology, both software, and hardware. Here I got the desired exposure and hands on telecom experience, right from fixed lines to the latest 4G technology. India is yet to welcome 5G. I was personally assisting and eventually handling work related to 1G, 2G and 3G technologies in their R&D lab.
Apart from academic excellence and professional prudence, I am a trained Indian classical music vocalist and can play several musical instruments like the Harmonium, the Tabla, the Congo, the Guitar and even the Xylophone. I was an integral part of the school orchestra. Music is food for my soul. A healthy mind can reside in a healthy body. To ensure physical fitness, I pursued football and cricket from my early years and have represented my school and college at various tournaments at local, state and national levels. Even now I am a part of a local cricket club, EBCC, which engages in corporate tournaments every now and then. Playing sports help me augment my interpersonal skills and team work which is imperative in the contemporary business landscape. More importantly, it inculcates the sportsman spirit that enables to accept failures with ease and strive harder henceforth.
Apart from my passion for technology, sports, and music, I have deep philanthropic interests. I donated my entire first salary to my college society called Enactus that works for women’s rights and protection. I’m also an active member of the Rotaract Club, a part of the internationally acclaimed Rotary Foundation. It engages in various social and noble activities like women education drives, cleanliness drives, blood donation camps, and save water campaigns to name a few. I’ve been honoured to serve as the Joint Secretary of the Rotaract Club of my city for the year 2016-2017, and it is my moral responsibility to aid the Secretary amongst other honourable board members in laying out the base for all the activities we plan to indulge in over the year and provide them with the organizational metrics for all the events we conduct. This realization backed with excellent organizational skills acquired through active participation in extracurricular activities brought me to the conclusion that I wanted to a master’s course that has a blend of both disciplines, technology, and management.
My long-standing goals include becoming an accomplished expert in telecommunications. For this, extensive knowledge and formal education are highly imperative. Telecommunication is a high vast field. I’m particularly interested, however, in Wireless Telecommunication and Fiber Optics. Fiber Optics is currently one of the fastest modes of communication being employed by many telecommunication companies world over to transmit telephone signals, the internet and cable television systems, but, due to its complexity in design and laborious installation process, it’s used is somewhat limited to long distance communication. I wish to explore its design and understand its shortcomings, and maybe even try to figure out a way to resolve them to some extent.
I’m sure that Masters in Telecommunication from XXXXX University shall enable me to accomplish my career objectives. The current research being carried by PROFESSORS is highly interesting and I wish to participate in it. I can assure that my passion and desire to learn under the guidance of eminent professors shall help me fulfil the benchmarks of the university.
